Dazor lamp / magnifiers are
probably the finest lamp / magnifiers on the market. The glass lens are precisely
ground and all components are heavy duty. The swing arm versions are the best
looking on the market with no exposed rods and springs to collect dust and snag on passing
objects. Non-standard stronger lens magnifications are available by special order.
The most popular needlework model is the Circline Magnifier. The second most popular
is the Magnifier Flex / Economy line. We think the Hi-Lighting Magnifier deserves
serious consideration. The Circline features shadowfree light while the Magnifier
Flex and Hi-Lighting provide incident light causing your stitches to "pop up"
for maximum visibility. The bulb in the Magnifier Flex
and Hi-Lighting can be replaced with a "natural sunlight" Ott Light bulb.
This is a major advantage.
Incident Light w/Shadows
When you purchase a Circline or Hi-Lighting, you are purchasing a lifetime item. When ordering, you need to order the Circline, Magnifier Flex or Hi-Lighting plus the mounting you want. That is, the basic lamps come without a mount. Note that some needlework stands have accessories that will hold the basic lamp / magnifier negating the need for a mount. Three mounts are available, a caster base, a pedestal base and a table clamp. All mounts are quite heavy.
The Circline has long been considered the very finest lamp / magnifier on the market (and it very well may be) and a significant amount of snob appeal comes with owning one. However, the Magnifier Flex or Hi-Lighting, especially when equipped with an Ott Light bulb, may be a superior lamp / magnifier due to the incident light of the lamp itself and the "natural sunlight" nature of the Ott Light. With the Hi-Lighting equipped with an Ott Light bulb, one could have the obvious quality and snob appeal of the Circline and also get incident light and "natural sunlight".
